Hunt-Scanlon Presents Carole Watkins of Cardinal Health with 2006 HR Leadership Award
Stamford, CT, June 7, 2006 - Hunt-Scanlon Advisors, the leading provider of news, information and analysis on the human capital industry for executives in human resources, recruitment, diversity and professional services, presented Ms. Carole Watkins, executive vice president of human resources of Cardinal Health with the 2006 Hunt-Scanlon Human Resource Leadership Award at Hunt-Scanlon's "Human Capital Advantage Forum: Generating Higher ROI on Human Capital Investments" conference on June 7th in Chicago at the Four Seasons Hotel. This is the third year Hunt-Scanlon has presented the award, which goes to a company's senior Human Resources executive for designing and implementing innovative human capital strategies that lead to superior financial performance. Past winners include Gary Snodgrass, Exelon Corp.; and Lea Soupata, United Parcel Service.
In late 2004, Cardinal Health began a global restructuring initiative that included business consolidation, process improvements and various other cost savings measures aimed at increasing efficiencies and productivity. The goal was to make improvements that would lead to increases in employee loyalty, consumer satisfaction and shareholder value. The coordination and execution of this initiative was the responsibility in large part of Cardinal's human resources team. Since then, Cardinal Health has enjoyed huge gains including a 25 percent increase in it's in stock price and earned high rankings on two prestigious lists: (1) the Fortune 500 at No. 19 and (2) the Fortune Most Admired list of Health Care Companies.
"The Hunt-Scanlon award is about HR leadership and it comes at a significant and somewhat poignant time for us - both as an HR team and as a company," Ms. Watkins said. "We are currently building the foundation to make the work experience for our employees engaging, rewarding and life-expanding and it's nice to be recognized for the hard work of our HR employees across the organization."
"The success that Cardinal Health has enjoyed can be attributed in part to the global restructuring initiatives - including business consolidation and process improvement - undertaken to increase efficiencies, productivity and overall shareholder value," said Joe Palmer, vice president, conferences and events. "We felt Carole and the entire human resources team were deserving of this award because of the significant role they have played in the success of these initiatives."
Ms. Watkins joined Cardinal in 1996 as Vice President of Human Resources for their Cardinal Distribution business and was given additional responsibility in 1999 for the entire Pharmaceutical Distribution and Provider Services business segment. She was promoted to her current position in August 2000.
"Carole has been playing a major role in helping Cardinal transition from a holding company to an integrated company that helps improve the productivity and safety of the healthcare industry," says Cardinal CEO, Kerry Clark, "She is key member of my team."
Carole came to Cardinal Health with over 20 years of human resources experience with other Central Ohio based companies, including The Limited, O. M. Scott & Sons, Lazarus and Huntington Banks. Cardinal Health, headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, is an $80B Fortune 19 company with over 55,000 employees worldwide. The company is a world leader in providing products and services to healthcare providers and manufacturers.
